After completing a BA in English from Smith College, Laura Jean Schneider earned an MFA in Fiction Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and completed a Gotham Writer's course on Food Writing in 2017. Her fiction and non-fiction has appeared in The Writer, The Montana Quarterly, High Country News, Edible Santa Fe, New Mexico Magazine, and elsewhere. In 2014, she was awarded the inaugural Big Snowy Prize in Fiction. Schneider has presented at the How It Happens Festival in Bozeman, Montana, and at the Western Literature Association's 51st Annual Conference in Big Sky, Montana. Her writing earned an invitation to the Université Bordeaux Montaigne to present on a panel for the Society for the Study of American Women Writers.
Schneider is a Culture and Animals Foundation 2019 grantee, and is at work on her project, a collection of essays called Maverick. The collection will be published in the Spring of 2020 by Andante Books.
